Singapore Sprint — Will It Work?

Most probably — yes.
Why?
Because Singapore is one of the circuits with the fewest overtakes, which makes qualifying particularly important to the entire weekend.
So what better way to create more action than having not just one qualifying session, but two?
The format was successfully tested in Miami, with very positive feedback. That is also why the same approach is planned for Monaco next year — and it could work there for exactly the same reason.
In general, the new trend for these types of circuits seems clear:
Less practice. More qualifying. More racing.
Critics will say: “Yeah, but Sprints are processions.”
True.
But Singapore races tend to be processions anyway.
So if the choice is between watching another predictable race or adding another qualifying session and another race start, most fans probably won’t complain.
Now let’s see how it actually works.

Sprint Race Facts & History
Singapore hosts the 30th F1 Sprint weekend — and the first ever at Marina Bay.
It is also the final Sprint of the 2026 season, following Shanghai, Miami, Montreal, Silverstone and Zandvoort.
But Singapore could be the toughest test of the Sprint format yet.
Why?
Because it is one of the hardest circuits on the calendar for overtaking.
8 of the last 12 Grands Prix were won from Pole — and none from outside the Top 10.
Now compress that into just 21 Sprint laps.
Track position could be everything.
Will the Sprint create more action — or simply lock in the order?
Let’s see.
